On Raksha Bandhan, sisters tie a Rakhi, usually made of thread and decorated with beads, on their brothers’ wrists. They then perform an aarti (a Hindu ritual of worship) and put tilak (a religious mark) on their brothers’ foreheads. Brothers, in turn, take a vow to protect their sisters and give them gifts. Sweets are also shared among family and friends.
